Meeting the City, Meeting the Museum Project from the Sakıp Sabancı Museum

Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM), in the “Meeting the City, Meeting the Museum” project realized in cooperation with 2010 Agency and the Municipalities, focuses on bringing women who are far from the city and artistic activities due to limited transportation facilities into contact with art and the museum. Within the framework of this project, the goal is to provide the opportunity for a total of 60,000 women in two years to visit the museum and take part in workshops.

So far, 3400 women have participated in four excursions from the Kadıköy, Sultanbeyli, Sarıyer, Şişli and Kartal municipalities. The women, in the company of guides, visited “A Surrealist in Istanbul: Salvador Dali'' exhibition and then participated in workshops. Participants, among whom were women who were drawing for the first time, drew trees, houses, clouds and flowers flying through the air, interpreting Dali according to their own lights, and pouring their world onto paper.

This activity will continue uninterrupted at the SSM once a week for a period of two years.

Those who wish to participate in the excursion and activity need only contact the cultural center of their local municipality.
