On the occasion of the exhibition: Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum, Sakıp Sabancı Museum hosted the International Workshop on Conservation and Bookbinding Studies on Oriental.

On the occasion of the exhibition "Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum: the Art of Book and Calligraphy” a workshop on the stakes in the preservation and in the study of oriental bindings is organised by COMSt –Team 5 (Manuscripts Preservation) at Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Istanbul on December 20th, 2010.

The aim of COMSt programme is to compare experiences and research results in the history of written civilisation, manuscript description/cataloguing, textual and material analysis, and manuscripts preservation, conservation and restoration.

COMSt programme is organised into 5 teams each focusing on one area of manuscripts studies.

Team 5 focused on:

The physical state of manuscripts in different cultural regions (all places of manuscripts preservation, the libraries included;

The conditions of manuscripts storage;
The steps to be taken towards the preservation of unique cultural heritages;
Educational programme for the librarians;
Cooperation with the international cultural organisations (supra-regional research centres, UNESCO, etc.);
Ongoing projects.
