Organized in collaboration with Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and with the contributions of Sabancı Holding, the exhibition has been drawn great interest since its opening on June 5, 2010.
Until today, the exhibition has been visited by world-renowned guests including Russia’s former prime minister Yevgeny Primakov, USA’s former foreign minister Madeleine Albright, American television host, speaker, and author Martha Stewart, architect Zaha Hadid, Nobel Prize-winning author Sir V.S. Naipaul, director Stephen Frears.
Exhibition Curator, SSM Director, Dr. Nazan Ölçer, said, “The exhibition and its comprehensive catalogue are very important, because they present Istanbul’s 8000 year history and its cosmopolitan identity born of a blend of different cultures. The exhibition brings together, for the first time, selected works from the world’s leading museums, Turkey’s museums, and private collections at the exhibition venue designed by world known Czech architect Boris Micka. Furthermore, the exhibition shows the residents of Istanbul the richness of the culture they live in by promoting the peerless history and cultural mosaic of the city. The SSM International Board of Overseers, composed of directors of the world’s most important museums and academicians, also advised the extension of the exhibition time in the annual meeting held on June. For these reasons, and in accordance with demands, we decided to extend the exhibition until September, 26.”
