The Sakıp Sabancı Museum Receives The Grand Award Of The Office Of The President On The Republic Day

SÜ Sakıp Sabancı Museum Board of Directors Chair Güler Sabancı’s comments on the 2009 grand award in culture and arts of the office of the president:

“The award bestowed upon our museum by President Abdullah Gül is a great source of pride and honor, and even more so by the fact that the news of the award was given on the Republic Day.

The former residence of the Sabancı Family, and the leader of the family, Sakıp Sabancı, the “Mansion with the Horse Statue” as it was called was transformed into a museum in 2002 when Sakıp Sabancı donated his collection of Ottoman calligraphy and 19th and 20th century Turkish art, and became the Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum.

The Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum was founded with a mission to preserve and develop our artistic heritage, provide future generations with an opportunity to admire art, and bring our people important artistic events across the world in the best and most authentic manner possible. Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum fulfills this mission today by organizing world-class exhibitions, trainings and conferences.

Much of this success is owed to the extraordinary efforts of Nazan Ölçer, the manager of the Museum, and her young team. Having said that, I would also like to thank my friends, the members of the Museum’s Board of Directors.

This award is a great incentive and encouragement to us for maintaining our ongoing efforts. The Sabancı Group, both with its companies and nonprofit institutions, will continue on the path laid out by Atatürk upon the proclamation of the Republic: to attain the level of contemporary civilization.”
